UpdatesEditor's Pick vs. User's Pick - New Labels on Psyll

We've added two new labels to the articles list to help you spot the content that matters most. Editor's Pick is straightforward - it's a manual call made by our editorial team, highlighting stories they believe deserve extra attention regardless of how they're performing.

User's Pick, on the other hand, is fully automatic and driven by real reader engagement. Instead of simply ranking by raw view count - which would always favor older articles that've had more time to accumulate views - our algorithm compares each article to its "neighbors": the articles positioned near it in the list. It looks at up to 10 articles before and after, calculates a local average view count from that group (filtering out one outlier to avoid skewed results from a single viral hit), and then checks how the article stacks up. If it's outperforming that local average by a solid margin, it earns a "User's Pick" badge; if it's dramatically outperforming its neighbors, it gets an extra boost indicator.

The result is a fairer spotlight: a brand-new article that's genuinely resonating with readers can get recognized just as easily as an older one, since it's judged against articles of a similar "age" on the list - not against the whole archive. It's our way of surfacing what you're actually reading and talking about, not just what's been online the longest.
